July 2019 New and Noteworthy

Wooly Wonka Fibers

Summer has arrived here in the mountains of northern New Mexico after a long, cool and rainy spring for us - very different than our usual windy and dry weather! Celebrating the warmer months, I’ve released a new lace shawl pattern, Spindle.

Spindle Shawl 2.jpg

Named not for the wool-spinning tool, but rather for a thorny bush with pink and orange berries that burst open in the summertime, this 2-color shawl is knit using Nimue Sock. The sample is shown here in Rosa Rugosa (the pink) and Georgia Peach (the orange).

Spindle Shawl 3.jpg

The shawl features two lace motifs and an easy slip-stitch pattern. It requires one skein of each of the colors. While I chose summery colors for the sample, but I think this design would look equally pretty in a pair of light and dark greens or blues.

Also of note, I’ll be vending and teaching again at Stitches Midwest the first weekend in August (August 1-4, 2019). If you are in the Chicago area, I hope you’ll come join us for another fun event. You can find the entire vendor list (I will be in The Yarn Guys’ booths again), as well as class and event schedules at the Stitches website here.

May 2019 New and Noteworthy

Wooly Wonka Fibers

First, I wanted to let shoppers know that I will be away on holiday from May 8th through 20th. While the shop will be open during that time, I will not be able to fulfill any orders until I return home, so thank you in advance for your patience. Pattern downloads via Ravelry, however, are available 24/7, as always!

sabino Socks

Next up,  I was really pleased to be asked to design a pair of New Mexico themed socks using my Rhiannon Sock for the newest edition of Nomadic Knits.

The Arizona/New Mexico themed collection has lots of great patterns, and my Sabino socks are included in that group (see samples above).  Knit using one skein of Copper Rivet, and 3 mini skeins of gradient blues, these are a fun way to tip your toes (pun intended!) into the stranded knitting pool.  For this pattern, please see the edition 3 Ravelry page for this collection.  If you'd like to order a yarn pack, please Contact Me and I'll be glad to get you taken care of.

Also new is the next piece in my Celtic garment collection - a vest themed for Beltane, or May Day. This unisex vest is knit using traditional Fair Isle stranded patterns, and is worked in 5 colors in Finullgarn wool. The hems and bands are worked in a corrugated ribbing, and the garment is constructed using steeks for the arm openings and V-neck. You can find the pattern here on Ravelry, available for immediate PDF download.

A reminder as well about some upcoming teaching dates for me:

SAVE THE DATE(S) - STITCHES MIDWEST

I'm teaching two 6-hour classes at Stitches Midwest this summer, and as well, just got notification that I will be also teaching at the brand-new Stitches Salt Lake City in early October! More details to come on that as I have them but I'm excited about this new event. I will, of course, also have yarn available in The Yarn Guys/Wall of Yarn booth spaces, as well as patterns and kits. You can find all the information about the Midwest event here and hope to see some of you there!

April 2019 New and Noteworthy

Wooly Wonka Fibers

Hello friends! It’s getting to be spring here in the Northern hemisphere, and I’m happy to let you know of a few items of note as we head into the warmer months.

I have a new design release for the Celtic Collection of garments I’ve been working on this year: Ostara. This women’s vest features traditional fair-isle colorwork patterning, as well as a stylized iris motif at the border. It is knit in the round with steeks at the V-neckline and armholes.

It’s shown here in Finullgarn fingering-weight wool (available from The Yarn Guys/Wall of Yarn) and it’s available right now as a PDF download on Ravelry.

Also released in the last month or so is a new pair of lace socks - Fern. These are sized for a ladies’ foot and feature a delicate fern front lace pattern on the front and back of the leg, which continues down onto the foot. The pattern contains 3 sizes for women, and can be knit with one skein of most sock-weight yarn put-ups. It’s shown here in the Willow colorway on Rhiannon Sock.

Finally, save the date(s)! I’ll be vending and teaching at Stitches Midwest the first weekend in August!

I’ll be teaching a top-down yoke sweater customization class, as well as a colorwork color palette inspiration class. You can find information on these (and all the great classes available from the Stitches Events folks) on the XRX website here. Hope to see you there!

March 2019 New and Noteworthy

Wooly Wonka Fibers

Thank you to everyone who came out to Stitches West, took classes, bought yarn, said hello and generally made that wild and crazy show a little bit more fun! There have been tons of pattern releases over the last several months, so I’ll highlight a few here for you, but as always, any new releases can be found on my Ravelry pattern listing page.

I released Spring Frost, the Imbolc-themed sweater for my Celtic garment collection in 2019. This is a ladies’ sweater knit in fingering-weight yarn with a pretty snowflake pattern at the yoke and on the sleeves, interspersed with stripes. A great way to tackle a slightly more complex colorwork pattern, but not too difficult.

Also of note, The Viking Collection has been released. This 7-piece set features 2 men’s/unisex sweaters, 1 hat, 1 shawl and 3 women’s sweaters, all themed on various Viking-ish things. I’m particularly fond of Astrid, which I had on in the booth on Sunday, if you stopped by.

As well as Brynhild, which is shown here in Nimue Sock in the Gray Goose colorway. This pretty pullover has a scooped neckline and waist shaping incorporated into the twisted stitch patterns of the body. The sleeves feature a bit of a bell-sleeve shape for an extra feminine detail at the cuffs.

I’ll be teaching at The Yarn Guys retreat in Ames, Iowa, next month, and then will head to Stitches Midwest in August if you are looking for a venue I’ll be attending.

Happy knitting!
