January 2019 New and Noteworthy

Wooly Wonka Fibers

Happy New Year! I hope your 2019 is off to a great start so far! I’m excited to share the next in the Celtic Collection I’m releasing over the course of the year. This is Yule, a richly cabled unisex pullover. It’s knit using a tweedy DK-weight yarn (the sample is knit from Rauma Yarns Strikkegarn, but you could easily substitute in Wooly Wonka Fibers’ Aeslin DK if you’d like it in a hand-dyed version.) The pattern is available currently on Ravelry as an instant download.

The sweater is knit from the bottom hem up in pieces, and then seamed together. The sleeves are also worked in pieces, with a cabled saddle shoulder detail and then set into the body. The hems are trimmed with a 2x2 ribbing, as is the neckline. The construction features modified dropped shoulders for a comfortable fit. The stylized staghorn cables give a nod to the stag, which is a symbol of the Solstice and the turning of the year from darkness into light.

New Pattern Releases - Early December 2018

Wooly Wonka Fibers

I’ve got several new pattern releases to share with you for December - a few now and a couple others coming closer to the end of the month. Follow any of the links to find the Ravelry pattern page, where these patterns are available for download as a PDF.

First up is Summer End. This is a unisex pullover with just a bit of colorwork. It’s shown here in Rauma Finullgarn, but it can be knit with any fingering-weight yarn of your choosing. This is a great project if you are new to stranded knitting as it uses limited colors and no steeking necessary!

The next release is the Gorse shawl - the next installment in the Ogham pattern collection. This is a 2-skein project, worked in Nimue Sock and shown here in the Buttercup colorway. This long rectangular stole is knit from one short edge to the other, and features two lace patterns representing the thorny tips of the gorse branches, as well as the drooping yellow flower clusters of the plant.

Last but not least is the Calaveras shawl from designer Lori Law. This elongated triangular shawl with an interesting construction and beaded detail uses one skein of Nimue Sock. It is shown here in the colorway Spiced Apple, and was the kick-off pattern for the Celtic Year Shawl Club for the Samhain Festival.

New DK-Weight Yarn Base - Atina DK

Wooly Wonka Fibers

I'm excited to announce a brand-new DK-weight yarn base - Atina DK.  This is a yummy blend of bouncy, squishy Polwarth wool and silk (85/15 blend).   Each 150 g skein has 350 yards, and the solid twist makes this a great yarn base for cables, lace or just plain garter or stockinette.  Priced at $35.00 per skein, it is a great value for a silk-blend yarn.

It's making its debut in Kathleen Dames's Etoile Cardigan in the newest issue of Filament magazine (Spring 2018).  Shown here in Hidcote, a soft grayed lavender color, and available in any colorway of your choosing.
